What special care do I need if I carry a device?

We must avoid hard and sticky foods that can damage or stick to the brackets, since every time a device is damaged you have to visit the orthodontist and the treatment can be extended. At the dental clinic we provide you with an instrument kit.

How long is the treatment with fixed orthodontics?

The treatment with brackets can last from one year less severe treatments to three years more complex treatments. Once the treatment has been completed, the use of a retainer (which is placed on the invisible internal part of the teeth) is indicated to prevent the teeth from returning to their starting position.

How do metallic brackets work?

The brackets are metallic elements that stick to the tooth (after preparation of the dental surface for it) or welded to bands with the aim of holding the arch, which is the active element that transfers the information of what movements should be made to the correct alignment of the teeth.

Sometimes it is necessary to use accessory elements when we need to make very precise or complex movements.

Orthodontic treatment is appropriate for both children and adults. Some orthodontic pathologies have a simpler treatment if we treat them at a younger age when the jaw and maxilla are still developing, so we recommend the first visit to the orthodontist at 7 years of age, not to start with an orthodontic treatment but to plan it and see what evolution it can have.
